FLYING: How to ease travel pains

| January 2, 2011 9:00 PM

Americans are outraged at the aggression displayed to law-abiding citizens by our government in the guise of "airport security." We are subjected to radiation, aggressive pat downs, sexual harassment, fears of terrorist plots and more! TSA itself is under siege by an angered populace.

What can be done? Here are some solutions to regain public trust.

Immediately cease using offensive scanners and aggressive pat downs.

Accelerate Testing of Safer, Less-Invasive Alternative Scanning Technologies. Alternative systems are installed in several countries around the world in mission critical security situations. They are equally effective at detecting threats. They emit no radiation and eliminate privacy concerns.

Deploy New Hand-Held Scanning Systems in Place of Aggressive Pat Downs. New portable hand wand systems detect exactly what the full body scanners do, without present concerns.

Evaluate the security measures successfully used by other airlines with a history of no high-jackings (such as El Al, Israeli Airlines). Their use of trained professional security personnel, armed Sky Marshals, etc. should be carefully studied.

Let's take the fear out of flying for the good guy, and put it back into the heart of the terrorists!
