STRAHORN: Come up with a solution

| February 18, 2011 9:00 PM

I'm not surprised that the traffic on Strahorn has been reduced in half. Remember that the street was made one-way on Sept. 20, 2010. That should reduce traffic on that street by one-half. Where did the northbound traffic go? I think it is now going by the Hayden Lake Country Club, north on Sky View/Hill View or Maple streets, to get around the one-way portion of the arterial: Strahorn. Is that the "desired" result? None of these alternate routes are arterials and none have been built to the standards used for arterials. Strahorn needs to be fixed and have the speed bumps removed.

How many accidents have there been on the one-way portion of Strahorn? I suspect none - or very few - none that I can remember over the 20 years I have lived here. Why is the Hayden Lake City Council interested in bike paths and people walking their dogs? There are no other roads in the city of Hayden Lake where bike riders and dog walkers get a one-way street to widen the road for them. Why should this portion of Strahorn be made one way? It is inconvenient for all - homeowners along the road and all of us who live north of the one-way section. Let the walkers/bikers use the Centennial Trail or McCall Park.

This action by the city of Hayden Lake seems to be ill conceived and should be sent back to the drawing board for a better solution. Are we supposed to do your work for you? Why were you elected if you can't find a better solution? Where is the northbound traffic on Strahorn supposed to go now that the "one-way" section is being tested? And when will the test be done?
