POLLUTION: Speak out, clean up air

| February 16, 2011 9:00 PM

Air pollution is a matter of life and death. We must cut the mercury, soot, smog and carbon dioxide pollution that threatens our environment and causes asthma attacks, respiratory diseases and premature death.

Right now, there are no limits whatsoever on the amount of carbon pollution companies are allowed to emit. The technology already exists to greatly reduce the air pollution affecting our communities and environment, but big polluters have blocked initiatives that would make it more available.

We've let polluters have a free ride long enough. We need Congress to do their job and stand up for our health and our future, not big Washington special interests. Congress must stop caving in to the corporate polluters and end attempts to undermine the Environmental Protection Agency's authority to limit dangerous greenhouse gas pollution.

We must take a stand not only for ourselves, but for the innocent animals that are suffering and dying out because of the abuse of the environment. It is my hope that this newspaper will help to spread the word.
