ATTRITION: Can solve many woes

| February 9, 2011 9:00 PM

As our national debt continues to rise and is now in double digit trillions of dollars, it would seem wise for our government - federal, state, county and city - to consider the option that private businesses have utilized for decades.

Whether contending with declining sales figures of their products, services etc. and/or their business costs increasing, many businesses have found it necessary to reduce their number of employees. Not through layoffs, nor firings, but by the more painless method of using attrition in the payroll.

If an employee moves away, quits or retires, the business does not seek a replacement for that position. This process is the least offensive for all concerned and all our governing agencies should consider attrition when the positions are vacated that are paid for by the tax paying public, reducing the costs to all the citizens.
