North Idaho trade seminar

coming later this month

To help North Idaho businesses explore exporting their products, the Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce and the North Idaho Small Business Development Center have joined with others to present a half-day seminar on Feb. 22.

The seminar - focused on the tools and resources to help small and micro businesses expand through international trade - will be at The Coeur d'Alene Resort, in room No. 5 and bay No. 1. The registration deadline is Feb. 8.

The chamber says Idaho's small and micro businesses have international business development opportunities.

It says the opportunities can help business become more profitable and grow during challenging economic times and when domestic markets are not growing as rapidly.

The Idaho Department of Commerce and the U.S. Department of Commerce also are helping present the seminar.

Attendees also will have an opportunity to meet with and hear from Idaho's trade office directors Eddie Yen, Taipei, Taiwan Trade Office; and Xu Fang, Shanghai, China Trade Office. Yen and Fung will present during the luncheon on "Entering the Dragon: Market Opportunities in China and Taiwan."

The cost is $55 for the seminar and lunch, or $35 for lunch only, or $25 for seminar only. The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 22.

Design agency wins national award for package concept

POST FALLS - Signal Point, a Post Falls package design and product development firm, has received an American Package Design Award through Graphic Design USA in New York City.

The winning package design was for EZ Grill's All-Natural Charcoal, which is scheduled to appear on retail shelves in early spring.

Kirkland, Wash.-based EZ Grill is best known for its flagship product, a disposable barbecue grill, which is found in retail stores across North America, including Walmart, Lowe's and CVS Pharmacies.

The EZ Grill has been seen on "The Today Show" and "Top Chef" and may also appear as part of a challenge on "The Apprentice" later this year.

Signal Point also designed the packaging for the disposable grill, and currently provides creative services for the EZ Grill company.

Thomas Latham, principal of Signal Point, said their national clients benefit from his firm's Idaho location.

"Because of the lower cost of living and low overhead here, we can provide creative services that you'd find at a big city agency at a fraction of the cost," Latham said. "You're getting the same product at a better price."

The winning design can be viewed at www.gdusa.com.

Signal Point completed projects for clients in 22 states last year. It is located at 444 N. Bay St. in Post Falls.
