Coder helps shorthanded Hawks prevail in overtime
PULLMAN - Junior Josie Coder scored a game-high 25 points, including 7 of 13 from beyond the 3-point line, as the Lakeland Hawks beat the Pullman Greyhounds 68-63 in overtime in a nonleague game Tuesday night.
"We couldn't have played any uglier in the first quarter and we couldn't have played any better in the second," Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. "It was one of those games when you think you're not going to get back into it. But it helps when Coder hits seven 3s. She had a huge effort for us."
Lakeland lost two point guards as Cieana Close injured her ankle early in the fourth quarter and Darby Murray fouled out with two minutes remaining in regulation.
"We really had to play point guard by committee in the final minutes," Seymour said. "This was a big road win for us and I was really pleased with how they played down the stretch."
Murray had 10 points and seven assists and Kacie Derby seven points and seven rebounds for Lakeland (7-4), which faces host Freeman (Wash.) in a holiday tournament next Tuesday.
