Weather's frigid, so let it snow

| December 14, 2011 8:15 PM

Considering just a few years ago we were literally buried in record snowfall it does seem kind of funny that so many of us are wishing for some flakes to fall. The way I look at it, if it's going to be really cold it may as well be white out there. And now that I'm on the record as wishing for snow I promise that there will be no complaining when it does arrive. :)

***Last week Aaron Baldwin was working with the Coeur d'Alene Summer Theater at a performance of the Holiday GI Jukebox at the Coeur d'Alene Resort. An elderly couple inquired about the show and Aaron recognized them as the stars of a YouTube video that's received over 100,000 hits online. Bruce and Esther Huffman of Oregon have appeared on Good Morning America and on Dec. 27 will be on the Today Show.

The viral video that's made them stars? Webcam 101 for Seniors, which is hilarious. The couple were trying to learn how to use the webcam on their computer and didn't realize they were taping themselves the entire time.***

'Tis the season of holiday soirees; in fact, this evening Governor Otter's Northern Idaho Governor's Ball is happening at the Hagadone Events Center with our own Kelly Hughes Band. Two-steppin' in tuxedos is distinctly Idaho. But the most fun I've ever had in a bowling alley was at a recent Christmas party hosted by John Magnuson and Jim McGee at their Lucky Lanes in historic Wallace. The alley is flawlessly restored to all its vintage glory, replete with bowling shirts and bragging rights for 200 Club inductees. It was a real celebration of the season.***

Brenda Smith was jogging on the Boardwalk with her dog, Fenway, in the early evening and observed that it's not easy to steal the show from the incredible holiday lighting displays at the Resort but the charming pooch, decked out in a reflective running harness and red blinking collar, managed to do just that.***

Two fun events this weekend to put on your calendar ... Friday night in the Eagles Ballroom on Sherman Avenue, the first Old School Coeur d'Alene Christmas Social will take place. CHS alum, family, faculty etc. are invited to attend and reminisce. Greg Cook says that there will be topnotch alum entertainment with comedian Pat Mitchell and Jody Piper's band Torino Drive. Info: 651-6319.On Saturday at the Shanty on Seltice Way, DJ Mr. Clean and the bands Cold Shot and South of Rock are donating their talents for the Rock 4 Stock Food Drive event to benefit the Post Falls Food Bank. Organizer John Blanchette has been a whirlwind in the past month or so soliciting donations of food for the cause. Info: 699-8523.***
