POLICE: Letter hits wrong target

| August 31, 2011 10:00 PM

I strongly disagree with Tim Herzog's criticism of our Post Falls Police Department. He contends that he is being singled out for not being in compliance with our city codes. He is either in compliance, or he is not. And that is totally a conscious decision on his part.

When a teacher calls out a young lad for his misbehavior in the classroom, that lad may reply, "But what about Johnny? He was doing it too?" Most of us learn early in life to accept responsibility for our own actions. It appears that Mr. Herzog is still an immature man who has yet to grow up and accept his responsibility to abide by our city codes. Maintaining one's property helps to make it a more enjoyable place to live. Keeping up with the maintenance protects one's property value and that of your neighbors'. How one takes care of his property is an indicator of good citizenship.

Most of us who live in Post Falls should have great respect for our police department for their leadership, dedication and commitment to keeping our city safe, and yes, in compliance with our city codes. They deserve our personal gratitude and support.

Mr. Herzog complains that there are other properties in his neighborhood that are unsightly and full of weeds. Then may I suggest that after cleaning up your own property, help a neighbor with his property. By working together, we improve the look of our community and get some exercise. And the next time you see one of our police officers thank him/her for all that they do for our community.
