Post Falls romps in opener

POST FALLS - Timmy Mueller scored three goals as the Post Falls Trojans defeated the Lewiston Bengals 7-0 in the 5A Inland Empire League opener for both schools on Tuesday at Post Falls High.

"I thought we started slowly in the first half, but we adjusted back to what we were supposed to do after halftime," Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said. "Lewiston held their own, but once we got going, it became a one-sided possession game. We worked out some of those cobwebs and once we started gelling, it was pretty tough for them to keep up."

Reece Jackson had two assists for Post Falls (1-0, 1-0 5A IEL), which hosts Coeur d'Alene on Monday.

MOSCOW - Kadin McGreevy scored in the 67th minute as the host Bears defeated the Timberwolves in a nonleague match.

"There were a lot of nerves coming in," Lake City coach Chad Beadell said. "I thought we played a solid 30 minutes in the first half and the second half, it was a warm day down there and we got a little gassed. We had a hard time finding speed after they scored the first time."

Tanner Horton had eight saves for Lake City (0-1), which hosts Lakeland on Thursday.

KELLOGG - Erin Garner and Hunter Rainio had one goal and an assist apiece as the Wildcats defeated the Tigers in the Intermountain League opener for both at Teeters Field.

"They wanted it more, they pursued the ball more and Kellogg just wanted it more," Timberlake assistant coach Mike Emerson said. "Our passes are good, but getting to the ball was not so much."

Jess Brandell scored in the 34th minute for Timberlake (0-2), which hosts Priest River on Thursday.

PRIEST RIVER - Kathryn Rainey and Brittany Krampert scored in the second half as the Spartans rallied to defeat the Lumberjacks in the Intermountain League opener for both schools.

Senior Kelsie Ragan scored in the 16th and 64th minutes for St. Maries (0-2, 0-1 IML), which travels to Orofino on Saturday.

"This was like the best game we've ever played," said St. Maries coach Paul Ebert, who fielded 11 players. "The girls gelled well and both teams were pretty evenly matched - the difference was they were able to put in fresh faces. I look forward to facing them in St. Maries."

Priest River (1-1, 1-0) travels to Timberlake on Thursday.
