Gordon Palm, 84

Gordon E. Palm, 84 of Coeur d'Alene, passed away Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at Kootenai Medical Center. He was born Jan. 21, 1927, in Sandpoint to Axel and Linnea Palm.

Gordon graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School and played sports throughout his schooling. He received a Yankee scholarship to Santa Clara and then transferred to Lewis and Clark where he studied in education. Gordon played for the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues for four years, including the Spokane Indians. He taught and coached in the Coeur d'Alene School District for 31 years. He enjoyed his students and many have stayed in touch with him over the years.

Gordon was an avid fisherman, baseball fan and lifetime member of the Eagles Lodge. He was married to Betty McElroy on Oct. 27, 2001, and they belonged to Lutheran Church of the Master in Coeur d'Alene.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Betty McElroy-Palm and her family; a sister, Karin Mank White of Spokane; two nieces, Barbra Mank of Portland, Ore., and Nancy White of Spokane. He loved his family and friends.

The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at Lutheran Church of the Master with Yates Funeral Home in care of the arrangements.
