Thunder fall in
title match at Boise
The Idaho Thunder FC under-16 boys soccer team lost in the championship match, 5-1 to Rainier Valley '93 (Wash.) in the boys premier division of the National Cup X Finals on Monday at Hubbard Fields in Boise.
The Thunder, a soccer club based in Post Falls, went 2-0-1 to advance to the finals.
Space available for
Cd'A Shootout
Space is still available for the annual Coeur d'Alene Shootout 3-on-3 basketball tournament on the campus of North Idaho College on Aug. 20-21.
The tournament is a double-elimination tournament with standard half-court games, played to 20 points or 25 minutes. Anyone 8-years and up can participate in 10 different divisions, ranging from third grade to adults.
Entry is $100 per team and includes a T-shirt. Registration is due by Aug. 15.
Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and the number of teams will be limited. Registration forms are available at The Sports Cellar, located at 402 Sherman Ave., or online at www.nic.edu/athletics.
Once determined, brackets and start times will be posted to the NIC athletics website.

Vandersloot, Griner added to
USA women's national team
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Chicago Sky rookie Courtney Vandersloot and Baylor University junior Brittney Griner have been added to the 2011-12 USA basketball women's national team.
Vandersloot is averaging 8.3 points and 4.4 assists per game. In her final collegiate season, she helped lead Gonzaga to the Elite Eight, West Coast Conference tournament and regular season championships with a 31-5 record
In her final year at Gonzaga, Vandersloot (5-feet-8) averaged 19.8 points and 10.2 assists per game.
