Ralph Domangue, 82

Ralph Domangue, 82, of Athol, passed away July 24, 2011. Born to Abbie and Cecile Domangue on Nov. 15, 1928, in Houma, La., Ralph was a Cajun raised in the bayou's. Seeking opportunity he joined the Army in 1946 and was assigned to the signal corps/communications. Ralph worked in the construction, repair and maintenance of communication equipment until his retirement, both from the military and the private sector. During his military career he served both overseas (Vietnam theatre) and domestically.

He was an active member of the American Legion, Post 149, Athol. He had been past post commander, service officer, 1st & 2nd Vie. Commander and has been a member of the American Legion since 1980. Ralph was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion, the 40/8, Eagles Aerie 4080, Hayden and a lifetime member of the VFW.

Kind and generous, Ralph donated to many charitable organizations. He was an avid supporter of local fundraisers. Ralph was always buying cookies, candy bars, raffle tickets or putting a couple dollars in the jar just to help others out.

Over the years Ralph participated in many sports and activities but the one that he enjoyed the most was golf. He loved golfing with his family and friends and he looked forward to all the American Legion golf tournaments.

He is survived by Joan, his wife of 58 years; daughter Yvette Domangue-Ramputi (Dan); granddaughter Rachel Ramputi; grandson Jeb Spencer; foster-daughter Judy Simsich; brothers-in-law, Alan Fisher (Veronica) (Calgary, Alberta), Murray Fisher (Regina, Sask.); nieces; Maureen Hillard (Ruston, La.), Cory Fisher (Calgary, Alberta), Lara Goolsby (Femdale, Wash.); nephews, Bud McCurdy (New Orleans, La.), Patrick McCurdy (New Orleans).

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Drew Ramputi; sister Ruby McCurdy and brother Harold Domangue.

In lieu of flowers it is suggested that donations be made to the fundraiser "Beds for Vets" c/o the American Legion Post 149.

Memorial service to be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel.
