RURAL: Speak up at county meeting

| April 27, 2011 10:00 PM

I strongly oppose the text amendment that the county commissioners will be asked to approve at their April 28 hearing.

My parents purchased our property in rural Post Falls in 1951 to live a rural lifestyle. Today, my husband and I live on that property, tending our orchard, grazing cattle in season, and preserving our land for agricultural and timbering use. The prospect of a commercial resort in our valley - bringing throngs of traffic, noise, dust, water pollution and fire and crime risk, will make our valley unlivable.

But this isn't just about our valley. If the commissioners approve this text amendment, it will open the entire county to increased commercial development, regardless of current zoning designations.

The county commissioners should do the right thing and reject this unwise text amendment.

If you, the reader, live in an area of Kootenai County zoned rural or agricultural, you should be very worried about this proposal. Come to the April 28 hearing and let the commissioners know you oppose cramming commercial development into your neighborhood.

Let's keep rural Idaho rural!
