Tigers, Spartans move, split

PRIEST RIVER - Tyler Shaffer allowed two hits for the Timberlake Tigers in the first game of an Intermountain League doubleheader split with the Priest River Spartans on Saturday.

Both games were originally scheduled for Timberlake High, but were moved due to wet field conditions in Spirit Lake.

Shaffer pitched a complete game on 66 pitches for Timberlake in a 12-2 win.

"Tyler flat dominated in the first game," Timberlake coach Bill Rider said. "He got outs consistently."

Johnny Hayden went 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored in the first game for Timberlake (3-5, 1-2 IML).

In the second game, Dalton Sommer had three RBIs on two hits as the Spartans (5-4, 2-2) won 13-3 as the visiting team on their home field.

Timberlake is scheduled to host the Coeur d'Alene JV team on Monday.

Priest River travels to Bonners Ferry on Tuesday

LEWISTON - Alan Willey drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning of the first game and threw a no-hitter in the second game as the Lewiston Bengals swept the Lake City Timberwolves in a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader at Church Field on Saturday.

Pete Hoffman had eight strikeouts and Mitch Bevacqua three hits in the first game for Lake City.

"We played really well in the first game," Lake City coach Al Bevacqua said. "We had one bad inning and without that, it's probably a different game."

Jason Pattis had two hits in the first game for Lake City (6-6, 2-3 5A IEL), which travels to Coeur d'Alene on Tuesday.

"The season is half over now," Bevacqua said. "We've got to start turning it around and picking up some Ws."

Lewiston (9-4, 2-2) hosts Post Falls on Tuesday.

BONNERS FERRY - Markus Davis and Tevin Hamilton combined on a no-hitter in the first game of the nonleague doubleheader for the visiting Bulldogs.

Davis struck out five in five innings, walking four and hitting two for Sandpoint (2-7). Bonners Ferry (3-7) scored in the first inning on two walks and a sacrifice fly.

Ryan Schwartz went 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs for Sandpoint.

In the second game, Eric Nikssarian pitched a four-hit shutout for the Bulldogs. He struck out five and walked one in six innings, and also hit an RBI double.

Sandpoint travels to Lakeland on Tuesday for a doubleheader.

Bonners Ferry plays host to Priest River on Tuesday.

KELLOGG - Jaden Guidry of St. Maries pitched a three-hitter in the opener, and Kellogg scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the nightcap in Intermountain League play at Teeters Field.

Guidry struck out 13 and walked two in the opener for the Lumberjacks (2-5, 2-2 IML). Zach Lehman led off the second inning with a home run and Ryan Sullivan hit a three-run homer later in the inning.

In the second game, Guidry's RBI double in the top of the sixth tied it at 7. In the bottom of the inning, Justin Karst tripled to lead off the inning for Kellogg (2-4, 1-4), then scored on Ryan Beggerly's double. Beggerly scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch with two outs.

Tyler Morgan hit a three-run homer in the third inning for Kellogg.

"I was happy with the way the kids responded in the second game," Kellogg coach Scott Ross said. "We came back and fought hard and came away with a win."

St. Maries travels to Timberlake on Tuesday.

Kellogg is scheduled to play host to the Lake City junior varsity on Monday.
