KYL: When right wing is just wrong
Once again, I am left flabbergasted and shaking my head in amazement at the sheer audacity of the conservative right wing. On April 8, Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., stated on the Senate floor that abortions are "well over 90 percent of what Planned Parenthood does."
When notified that in fact the majority of services provided are pap smears, breast cancer screenings, contraception and other basic health services, and abortions account for less than 3 percent as a percentage of the number or services provided, his office replied that his statement "was not intended to be a factual statement." While I am not surprised that a politician lied on camera with a straight face, the blasé response when challenged with the truth is truly audacious.
Then we have three talking heads on Fox News stating that people don't need Planned Parenthood because services such as blood pressure checks, cholesterol screening, pap smears and breast exams are available at Walgreens.
So ladies, when looking for the pap smear section at Walgreens, do as Steven Colbert suggested and just look for the stirrups.
And then, consider voting these folks who absolutely do not have your best interests at heart, out of office. And remember, next time you are inclined to stretch the truth, all you need to do is include the caveat - is not intended to be a factual statement - and you'll be covered.
