Lake City boys, Coeur d'Alene girls triumph at Resort Shootout

COEUR d'ALENE - Coeur d'Alene freshman Stephen Roller shot a six-over 77 to earn boys medalist honors at the Coeur d'Alene Resort Shootout on Thursday between the Vikings, Lake City Timberwolves and Post Falls Trojans.

"I'm proud of the younger kids for shooting the way they did today," said Coeur d'Alene coach Bryan Duncan, who played his No. 6-10 players due to match limitations. "Hats off to Stephen for shooting a 77 in these conditions."

Golfers had everything from rain, wind and hail during the 18-hole tournament.

"We experienced three of the four seasons today," Coeur d'Alene girls co-coach Melody Melton said. "The course was in good shape and we really enjoyed playing out here."

Maddie Dodge shot an 82 to win girls medalist honors for Post Falls.

The Lake City boys (326) and Coeur d'Alene girls (406) won team titles.

All three boys teams will compete in the Kraus Invitational on Monday at Avondale Golf Club. The three girls teams play Monday at the Coeur d'Alene Invitational at the Hayden Lake Country Club. Both begin with 9 a.m. shotgun starts.

Dan Masterson sank a 20-foot putt on the first playoff hole to earn boys medalist honors for the Lumberjacks in an Intermountain League dual with the Tigers at Twin Lakes Village Golf Club.

"On the girls side, it went really well," Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. "I was happy with the team for the first dual of the year to shoot as well as they did."

Timberlake's Makayla Blood shot a 50 to earn girls medalist honors.

Both teams will compete in an Intermountain League tournament Saturday at Twin Lakes Village.

ST. MARIES - Kelsie Fink scored the runner from second base with an RBI double to lead off the eighth inning of the first game, and the visiting Spartans swept the Lumberjacks in Intermountain League play.

Tia Asbury had six strikeouts in the first game for St. Maries.

In the second game, Kelsey Bradbury had three hits and scored three runs for the Spartans. Bradbury also earned the win in the circle for Priest River (7-3, 3-0 IML).

"We had a tough time swinging at good pitches," St. Maries coach Todd Bitterman said. "We didn't make the most of her wildness. She was around the plate, but we didn't get any good swings against her."

Morgan Cummings hit an RBI double in the third inning of the second game for St. Maries (3-3, 0-2), which travels to Kellogg on Saturday.

Coeur d'Alene Charter's tennis match at the Post Falls junior varsity on Thursday was cut short by rain, and will resume today at 3:30 p.m.

Lakeland's softball doubleheader with visiting Sandpoint has been rescheduled for April 25 at 3:30 p.m.

Lakeland's baseball doubleheader at Sandpoint has been rescheduled for May 3.

A track meet at Sandpoint also including Lake City and Post Falls was postponed. No makeup date was announced.
