BF Ranger District seeks volunteer campground hosts

| April 7, 2011 9:00 PM

The Bonners Ferry Ranger District of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests is looking for volunteer campground hosts at the historic Snyder Guard Station near the Moyie River.

The district began accepting applications for the station host positions on March 14, and plans to select volunteers by May 10, according to a Forest Service press release.

The host position is intended for singles or couples, the release said. A new, single bedroom house on-site will be provided for the host; however, the house is not adequate for couples with children. The house includes appliances and will be partially furnished.

If volunteers live at the home through the winter, they will be charged a monthly fee of $225.

"We are asking for a full-season, year-round commitment, but would consider May through November as a minimum commitment," Pat Hart, district trails and recreation program leader, said in the release. "We will not consider applicants who have full time employment elsewhere."

About 30 miles from Bonners Ferry, the Snyder complex is on County Road 34, a few miles east of Highway 95.

Interested parties can pick up application packets via email: pahart@fs.fed.us, spetesch@fs.fed.us, or ssteinhorst@fs.fed.us.
