'Music Man' at Northern Quest

SPOKANE - The five-time Tony Award winner "The Music Man" takes the stage in the Pend Oreille Pavilion at Northern Quest Resort & Casino for six performances, Tuesday, April 5 through Sunday, April 10.

Tickets are $40 and available at the Northern Quest Box Office at 481-6700 or through Ticketswest at (800) 325-7328 or ticketswest.com. All shows are 21 and over.

Premiering on Broadway in 1957, "The Music Man" is a musical that follows traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City into buying musical instruments for a band he vows to organize, despite the fact that he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef.

"The Music Man" has received five Tony Awards, a Grammy Award for "Best Original Cast Album," a film version created in 1962 as well as a television show in 2003, and numerous revivals through professional and amateur theaters.

Arts Commission seeks artists

The Coeur d'Alene Arts Commission is seeking artists to participate in its new "ArtCurrents" program.

Artists submit applications for placement of their sculptures around Coeur d'Alene's downtown for a year. The displayed works will also be offered for sale, with the city of Coeur d'Alene receiving a 25 percent commission from the sale.

Ten art pieces will be selected and the artist or artist team will be awarded a $500 stipend to cover the cost of shipping. The selected artwork will be displayed along Sherman Avenue, Lakeside Avenue and City Park.

Information packets are available at City Hall, 710 E. Mullan Ave., or online at www.cdaid.org.

Artist proposals are due by April 18. Artwork installation will begin June 6.
