5A IEL-leading Trojans top Vikings

COEUR d’ALENE — Ashley Jibby had 10 kills and 10 digs as the Post Falls Trojans clinched at least a tie for the 5A Inland Empire League title by defeating the Coeur d’Alene Vikings 19-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-19 on Tuesday night at Elmer Jordan Court.

“Post Falls is the No. 1 team in our league for a reason,” Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said. “We played with a lot of heart, but just didn’t come out with the win. We’re improving as a team and hopefully it carries over to next month.”

Tori Bertsch had 21 assists and four aces and Dani Failor had two blocks for Post Falls (19-1, 5-0 5A IEL), which can wrap up the title by beating Lake City at home on Thursday.

No stats were recorded for Coeur d’Alene (8-12, 0-5), which hosts Lewiston on Thursday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Sam Buratto had 13 kills for the Bulldogs in a 19-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-16 win over the Timberwolves.

Blake Plaster had 15 digs and Ariel Moe had 22 digs for Sandpoint (5-4), which hosts Moscow on Thursday.

Jennifer Schuman had 20 kills, Camille Rounds had 25 assists, MacKenzie Brown had 14 digs and Madi Farrell had five blocks for Lake City (6-6), which travels to Post Falls on Thursday.

Moscow

RATHDRUM — Sharon Gardner had 10 kills, Kaitlyn Whitesitt nine as the host Hawks beat Moscow 16-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-20 in 4A Inland Empire League play at Hawk Court.

It was the first victory of the season in a scheduled five-set match for Lakeland (2-15, 1-2 4A IEL). The Hawks swept a three-game match in their tournament.

“We’ve just been extremely inconsistent all year, and tonight we did a lot better job of taking care of the ball and keeping the ball in play,” Lakeland coach Claudia Ebel said. “It was exciting for those kids — that’s a long spell we went through. They did a good job of fighting through it.”

Erin Ogden had 20 digs, Jayne Van Slate three blocks, Sonora Wilkes 21 assists and Kelly McKanna three aces for Lakeland, which added a match at St. Maries on Thursday.

Talia Candler had nine kills, Amy Westberg 25 digs for Moscow (1-2).

BONNERS FERRY — Marlee Masterson had 11 kills for the Lumberjacks in a 25-7, 25-9, 25-16 win over the Badgers in an Intermountain League match.

Jaylee Sines had 20 assists and Tia Asbury had 13 digs for St. Maries (15-2, 5-0 IML), which hosts Kellogg on Tuesday.

Marcayle Acord had five aces, three kills and two blocks, Ivy Dirks had eight assists and Miranda Stippich had eight digs for Bonners Ferry (8-11, 1-4).

SPIRIT LAKE — Melissa Trost had 20 digs and 10 kills for the Spartans in a 25-21, 25-23, 25-19 win over the Tigers in an IML match.

Steffie Pavey had 18 assists, Morgan Stewart had 15 digs and Kelsey Lederle had five aces for Priest River (3-11, 1-3).

Brooke Murray had 18 assists, Amanda Swanson had seven digs, Kelly Madsen had seven kills and Halee Edelblute had four aces for Timberlake (10-5, 1-3), which travels to Kellogg on Thursday.

Wallace

WALLACE — Joelle Miller had 11 kills and nine blocks as the Knights secured home-court advantage for their 1A Division I district playoff with the Miners after a 25-11, 25-15, 13-25, 25-19 win in a North Star League match.

“We started a little slow, but got going before we let up in the third game,” Lakeside coach Jan Mitchell said. “I was very impressed with the whole team play tonight.”

Jennifer Mitchell had 24 assists for Lakeside (6-1, 5-1 NSL), which hosts Mullan on Thursday. The district playoff match with Wallace is scheduled for Oct. 19 in Plummer.

Amanda Pehan had 10 kills and 11 blocks, Emily Vester had nine kills and Kaitlyn Hoffman had 18 assists and 16 digs for Wallace (2-7, 1-4), which hosts Kootenai on Thursday.

Kootenai

CLARK FORK — Mariah Miller posted nine kills, 13 digs and six aces to lead the Wampus Cats (8-2, 6-0 North Star League) past the Warriors 25-13, 25-22, 25-20.

Brie Benson tallied four kills and three aces, Olivia Kincheloe nine digs and Anna Parker six assists for Kootenai (1-6, 0-6 NSL).

Cd’A Charter

COEUR d’ALENE — Kami McKinnon had nine assists, seven aces and four kills as the Tigers defeated the Panthers 25-23, 25-13, 25-14 in a nonleague match at Holy Family Catholic School.

“We started pretty strong and stayed with them, but just couldn’t handle their cross-court attacks,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Chris Smith said. “Our passing kind of fell apart, but there were a lot of good plays on the court.”

Emily Verhaeghe had 13 kills, Brianna Marshall had 30 assists and Lexi Turkenburg had six kills and eight aces for Coeur d’Alene Charter (1-11), which travels to Clark Fork on Thursday.

Sydni Kotschevar had eight assists and nine aces and Nikki Axtman had six aces and four kills for Mullan (7-3), which travels to Lakeside on Thursday.

HAYDEN — Kana Shanley had eight aces as the Royals defeated the Lions 25-16, 25-22, 25-13 in a Mountain Christian League match.

Desi Reardon had nine digs and Kaitlyn Mowry had 15 assists for North Idaho Christian (5-1, 5-1), which faces Logos in Moscow on Thursday.
