Mercier helps Trojan girls tie Lewiston, maintain 5A IEL lead
POST FALLS - Aubree Mercier had two second-half goals and an assist to help the Post Falls Trojans earn a 3-3 tie with the Lewiston Bengals in 5A Inland Empire League play Tuesday.
"We didn't play well at all today," said Post Falls coach Becky Thompson, whose team remains in first place in the league. "Especially in the first half - we made a few changes and fought back pretty well. Our effort was the only thing we could control today and we couldn't get things done the way we wanted to."
Alexis Smith scored on an assist by Mercier in the 51st minute for Post Falls (4-3-4, 2-1-1 5A IEL), which travels to Mead on Saturday.
Lewiston is 4-1-5, 1-1-2.

ST. MARIES - The Timberwolves scored the game's only goal in the 63rd minute in a win over the Lumberjacks.
"When we played up there, they wailed us 9-0," St. Maries coach Paul Ebert said. "They got 17 shots today, but they weren't quality shots and our defense was able to tighten around them. We need to work on our offense, but a lot of good things happened today."
Chelsea Thaut had 12 saves for St. Maries (0-10-1), which hosts Kellogg on Thursday.

"Anytime you go to their field, it can be challenging," Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said. "Today was one of the better performances we've had as a team. For whatever reason, it's not easy to win there - but we had some good ball movement and great passing. Our passing could have been better, but we got the job done."
Post Falls (7-1-1) will host Coeur d'Alene on Thursday.
