Viking boys, girls win, Gomez romps at Farragut

CROSS COUNTRY

Coeur d'Alene senior Kinsey Gomez finished a minute ahead of the girls field in 19 minutes, 28.3 seconds to win the Farragut/Super 1 Invitational on Saturday at Farragut State Park.

Nathan Weitz of Shadle Park set a course record in the boys race in 16:03.7.

Coeur d'Alene won both boys and girls team titles in the large school divisions, with Lakeside and Timberlake winning in the boys and girls small school divisions.

Sandpoint at Missoula meet: The Bulldog boys finished 13th out of 46 teams in the Mountain West Invitational at the University of Montana Golf Course.

Jimmy Matthews finished 44th in 16:30 as the top finisher for Sandpoint.

Molly Burgstahler finished 62nd in 20:25 for Sandpoint, which finished 23rd in the 43-team girls field. Lewis and Clark won the boys team title and Bozeman won the girls.

n VOLLEYBALL

Lewiston d. Sandpoint: The Bulldogs fell short in Lewiston after winning the first two games, falling 20-25, 23-25, 25-14, 25-22 and 15-13 to the Bengals.

Mackenzie Jones had six aces to go with 18 assists, Sam Buratto added 18 digs and five aces, Ariel Moe nine kills and Alex Bucholtz three blocks for the Bulldogs (4-2).

Timberlake wins Bonners tourney: Kelly Madsen totaled 22 kills, Amanda Swanson recorded 26 digs and Timberlake won the Bonners Ferry Invitational.

The Tigers (10-3) defeated Lake City JV 25-11, 25-16; Libby (Mont.) 25-8, 25-15; and Coeur d'Alene JV 25-16, 25-13 in pool play. In the championship round, Timberlake defeated Clark Fork 25-15 and Coeur d'Alene JV 25-18.

Brooke Murray had 38 assists and 16 aces for Timberlake, which plays at St. Maries on Thursday.

The Coeur d'Alene JV finished second, defeating Libby 25-10, 25-14 and the Lake City JV 25-15, 25-23 in pool play to advance to the semifinals where the Vikings beat Bonners Ferry 25-18 to advance to the championship match.

Sydney Williams had seven aces, 11 kills and six blocks, Morgan Leifer had eight blocks, Mikayla Strand had 15 digs, Miranda Miller had 14 digs, Sydni Parker had 18 assists and five kills, Jessica Spinazza had 20 assists and Haile Watson had six kills and six blocks for the Coeur d'Alene JV.

Celeste Komanec tallied 51 assists and 14 digs for Clark Fork. Brocklynn Thornton added 19 kills, nine blocks and five aces, Mariah Miller 14 kills and 26 digs, Claire McMahon nine kills and 18 digs and Dimi Kailang 20 digs and four aces.
