Trojans home - for now

Pardon the members of the Post Falls High football team if they instinctively head out toward a waiting bus this afternoon.

That's because five of the Trojans' first six games are road games.

But the Trojans will play at home tonight, hosting East Valley at 7.

Post Falls (2-0) has already embarked on its two longest road trips of the regular season, winning 57-14 at Caldwell and 51-6 over Centennial Secondary School of Coquitlam, British Columbia, in a game played in Ellensburg, Wash.

East Valley (1-1) lost 35-14 at Sandpoint, then beat Lakeland 34-7 at home last week.

Post Falls' next two road games aren't far - at Lakeland on Sept. 24 and at Lake City on Oct. 1 in the 5A Inland Empire League opener. Post Falls visits Sandpoint on Oct. 8 before closing the regular season with three straight home games.

Lakeland (0-3) at Timberlake (0-2): Timberlake has won four of the last seven meetings between the Lakeland School District rivals, including a 20-10 victory at Lakeland last year.

St. Maries (1-2) at Bonners Ferry (0-2): It's the Intermountain League opener for both schools. Bonners lost 20-6 at Freeman (Wash.) and fell 33-20 at home to Lethbridge (Alberta).

St. John-Endicott (1-0) at Kootenai (2-1): St. John-Endicott was idle last week, after opening with a 24-20 win at Odessa-Harrington. Kootenai accepted a forfeit from last year's scheduled meeting because of an illness outbreak at SJ-E. Kootenai won 42-0 at home in 2008.

Lakeside (1-1 NSL, 1-1) at Clark Fork (1-1, 1-1): Lakeside is coming off a 40-36 near-miss loss at Kootenai last week. Both teams have played Mullan, with Lakeside winning 56-6 and Clark Fork winning 48-28. Nate Nesbitt of Clark Fork rushed for 396 yards and five touchdowns vs. the Tigers last week.

Coeur d'Alene (2-1) and Lake City (1-2) are idle this week. Next Friday, Coeur d'Alene plays host to Sandpoint. Next Saturday, Lake City travels to Snohomish, Wash., to play Glacier Peak.
