FAIR: Prizes not worth effort

For several years I have entered my water color paintings in the professional division winning first place and people's choice.

This year I chose not to enter anything. I have been asked several times why.

When I first started competing, first place was $100. Last year after winning first place and people's choice the prize money was $3. It takes me three to six months to complete a water color. Drive 36 miles round trip then wait in line to fill out paperwork. After the fair closes I make the return trip, wait in line to pick up the painting, wait in another very long line to receive prize money. It felt more like a slap in the face. I let them keep the $3 and left with a very bad taste in my mouth.
