SILVERTON - Nathan Cook ran for 298 yards and five touchdowns, Kidman Cook added 181 yards and two scores, and the Miners scored 34 straight points in the second quarter and clinched the lone playoff spot in 1A Division I of the North Star League for Wallace.

Wallace (8-0, 8-0 NSL), hosts Prairie next Saturday at 1 p.m. in the opening round of the state playoffs at Sather Field.

"Our ground game is where it's at," Wallace coach Dave Rounds said. "We worked on pounding it out, pounding it out. We overpowered them in the running game."

The Miners never trailed, but were pushed early when Tucker Louie-McGee found Lamont Higgins for 28 yards and a score to tie the game at 8-8 early in the second quarter.

From there, the Miners took over. Cook started the second-quarter onslaught with a 45-yard scoring run up the middle for a 14-8 lead. After Wallace stopped the Knights on fourth down, Cook took a toss right on the next play, cut it back upfield to the left, and broke away down the left side for a 64-yard score and a 22-8 lead with 6:44 left in the half.

"They just came out and punched us in the mouth," Lakeside coach Ron Miller said. "They went to their strength and went to it over and over ... we lost both our starting running backs in the first half."
