Fall preview concert on Tuesday at LCHS

| October 29, 2010 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - The Lake City High School choirs are warmed up and ready to present a fabulous fall preview concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the LCHS auditorium.

Terry DeGroot, LCHS choir director, said 160 students will be performing at the free event.

Featured in the performance will be the chorus, jazz pack, treble choir, men's ensemble, concert choir, chamber choir and jazz choir.

The choirs will be singing a range of music from traditional pieces to the popular genre. The popular music ranges from music of the '20s to some Lennon and McCartney tunes.

The men's choir will be performing a rousing rendition of "There is Nothing Like a Dame" from the musical "South Pacific" as well as their own version of "Barbara Ann."

Jazz selections include Gershwin's "Nice Work if You Can Get It," a vocal arrangement of Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" as well as an a cappella ballad arrangement of "I Wish You Love."

DeGroot is in her first year at LCHS, having returned to the district after a six-year absence. She was also previously the choir director at Coeur d'Alene High School for a number of years.

"A teacher's first year in a program is always a challenge but the fact that the students are ready and excited to perform tells me that we are off to a great start," she said.

During an intermission there will be a pie auction to benefit the choirs.
