Roger L. Knapp, 77, passed away on Oct. 18, 2010, at his home in Pinehurst. His sisters and wife were by his side when he passed from this life. He was born on Aug. 2, 1933, in Coeur d'Alene. His parents were Carl and Callie (Dunn) Knapp.

He completed his service in both the National Guard and the U.S. Army. He went to work for Washington Water Power as a meter reader in 1956. He moved to the Kellogg office in 1963 as the Gas Service Rep and held that position until his retirement in February 1991. He supervised the installation of most of the natural gas lines in the Silver Valley. He leaves behind many friends from his years with "The Water Power."

He is survived by his wife, Leslie Knapp of Pinehurst; his son, Larry Lommel of Monterey, Tenn.; sisters Elaine (Jerry) Powers of Rathdrum and Marilyn (Ron) Marson of Duval, Wash. Also, his nephews and nieces, Bill Marson, Lonnie (Neil) Lennebacker, Lisa (Dennis) Gearhart, Rick Bell, Debbie Ronfeld and Tam Carter and their families; his best friend, John Juds and countless friends in the Silver Valley and Coeur d'Alene and Spokane. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Frank Knapp.

His life's passions were elk hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and hiking the mountains of North Idaho. In his later years he enjoyed picking huckleberries with his friends and feeding his adopted flocks of birds and wild turkeys.

He held his own "Celebration of Life" two years ago because he said he wanted to be there in person. Roger once summed up his own life as "One helluva' ride." It was and he lived it to the fullest.

Cremation was held and at his request, there will be no services.

The family wants to extend their heartfelt thanks to Cancer Care Northwest of Spokane for the excellent care he received during his long battle with cancer, to Doctors Lickey, Hussien, Parden, Jacobsen and to Hospice of North Idaho for all they did during his last days.
