| October 27, 2010 1:19 PM

Mary Katrina Epkey passed away on Oct. 5, 2010, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Wash., from complications arising from an illness she had been battling.

Mary Kate was born Sept. 17, 1991, in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., and moved to this area with her family the same year. She attended St. Dominic School in Post Falls for most of her education, where she formed her dearest memories and best friendships. After graduation from Our Lady of Victory School, she became a licensed CNA and worked at a local Assisted Living facility where she dedicated herself to taking care of the elderly.

She will always be remembered as a loving daughter and sister, being the third child and eldest daughter in a family of 13. She was generous, hardworking and kind, and will always be loved and missed by her parents, brothers, sisters and relatives for her irreplaceable qualities. She was a devout Catholic and died wearing her brown Scapular and the Miraculous Medal of Our Lady, having received the Sacrament of Extreme Unction and Apostolic Blessing before entering eternity.

Mary Kate is survived by her parents, Charlie and Theresa Epkey, and 12 siblings: Ignatius, Dominic, Cecilia, Lucie, Bernadette, Marcel, Kirsten, Margaret, Annette, Joseph, Claire and James Epkey; and also by her two grandmothers, Agatha Epkey of Fowler, Mich., and Jeannette DeLallo of Post Falls; as well as by many aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides of the family.

The rosary was held on Oct. 7, 2010, and the funeral service (with Requiem Mass) was on Oct. 8, 2010, at Immaculate Conception Church in Post Falls.

Arrangements were made by English Funeral Chapel, Post Falls.
