BROTHERS: Real band comes through
My brother, a Vietnam Disabled Vet, died a week ago. I am only now coping with this loss. My brother would be buried in the U.S. ARMY uniform that he wore so proudly for a country that he loved even more.
But, only the dress pants and jacket had been saved. As his funeral was within two days I frantically searched at local stores that carry military surplus. Having no luck I made my last stop at SOS Surplus in Post Falls. The gentleman working there tore through the place looking for my items: proper shirt, tie and garrison cap. Even with other customers present he continued to help me look. Success, all three items found! Feeling as if a ton was lifted from my shoulders, I prepared to make payment. With a dignified look of understanding he stated there would be "NO Charge by SOS for helping to bury a Veteran."
With tears in my eyes we shook hands and I left. Only later did I realize I had not asked his name; but, GOD and my brother both know and will remember him.
At my brother's graveside I watched as many veterans solemnly paid respect to their "BROTHER." O This Glorious Band of Brothers who in battle fear only For the Life of the men standing with them, facing the Demon that is War!
I am also a disabled Vet and though I have lost the one, I stand among the many, my Band of Brothers.
