Tribe to host local, state candidates
PLUMMER - The Coeur d'Alene Tribe is hosting a candidate forum Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Coeur d'Alene Tribe's Wellness Center.
The event is intended to promote voter awareness and provide a venue for local and state candidates to express their views before the Nov. 2 general election, Coeur d'Alene Tribe Chairman Chief Allan said.
"Tribal voters have a powerful voice and it's important for them to exercise it," Allan said. "The forum will provide everyone in the community another opportunity to hear from their candidates."
The Tribe has invited numerous candidates in various key races, including Benewah County Commissioner Christina Crawford, D-Tensed and her challenger Phil Lampert, R-Plummer, Rep. Dick Harwood, St. Maries-R, and his opponent Jon Ruggles, Wallace-D.
In the Kootenai County Commissioner's race, write-in candidate Rick Currie and Jai Nelson, the Republican Primary winner, have both been invited.
Incumbent Mary Lou Shepherd, D-Wallace and her opponent Shannon McMillian, R-Wallace are expected to attend.
The public is welcome and light snacks and beverages will be provided.
