Lois H. Myers, 87

| October 25, 2010 4:05 PM

Lois H. Myers, of Hayden, died Oct. 17, 2010, after a blessedly brief battle with cancer. Lois Ann Hatch was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Woodville, Wis., to Anna and Wesley Hatch.

She graduated from Woodville High School in 1941 and from Hamlin University in Minneapolis with a degree in nursing in 1944. She served as an officer and a nurse in the U.S. Army during WWII, caring for soldiers wounded in the Battle of the Bulge, at Ft. Carson in Colorado and other locations, including Madigan Hospital at Ft. Lewis in Washington.

She married Woodrow L. Myers in 1945 and supported his career as an Air Force officer of 28 years, from Alaska to Japan and across the United States, to their retirement in Hayden.

Lois enjoyed the outdoors, including camping, fishing and hunting, but she particularly loved gardening and backyard wild bird feeding and watching. She was an avid sports fan, especially following Gonzaga basketball, Idaho and Washington college football, and Seattle Mariners baseball. Her greatest legacy was being a selfless, kind and patient mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Wesley Hatch and his wife, Glen; and her brother-in-law, Richard Roepke.

She is survived, deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her sister, Margaret H. Roepke of Baldwin, Wis.; her son, Woodrow L. Myers Jr. (Madonna) of Mead, Wash.; her daughter, Elizabeth Myers of Spokane, Wash.; her son, James Myers (Sue) of Coeur d'Alene; grandchildren Anna, Sarah, Amie, Chris and Jaimee; great-grandchildren Faith, Nathan, Victoria, Abigail, Melody and Benjamin; and nieces, nephews, cousins and military friends and their families throughout the country.

A memorial service for Lois will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Hayden Bible Fellowship, 9140 N. Reed Road, Hayden.
