Wendell edges Bonners in title game

TWIN FALLS - Lupe Ruelas, Carlos Sarabia and Eder Macias had goals as the Wendell Trojans defeated the Bonners Ferry Badgers 3-1 in the state 3A boys soccer tournament at the Sunway Soccer Complex in Twin Falls on Saturday.

Aaron Moe scored the only goal of the match for Bonners Ferry (17-4-0). Mat Evans had four saves for the Badgers.

IDAHO FALLS - Rikki McCaw, Evan Teichmann and T.J. McWhorter scored goals for the Timberwolves in a loss to the Mavericks in the 5A third-place match at the Idaho Falls Soccer Complex.

"It was a great game on both teams' part," Lake City coach Chad Beadell said. "Both teams had athletes that were banged up, but everyone was resiliant. We got down 4-2 and had some great chances late, but couldn't finish it off. The match could have gone either way."

Donald Osborne-Moss had two assists and Tanner Horton had 12 saves for Lake City, which finishes the season 10-6-3.

Coeur d'Alene 2

IDAHO FALLS - Adam Borshiem and Ryan Glasky scored goals for the Vikings in a loss to the Braves in the consolation game of the state 5A tournament at the Idaho Falls Soccer Complex.

"We're disappointed we lost the game," Coeur d'Alene coach Jeff Lake said. "But we had five starters that went out of the game early and our bench had to step up. It was just one after another today."

Coeur d'Alene (13-5-2) lost Matt Hulquist, Justin Doering, Byron Fabiano, Keagan Schillington, Drew Morgan and Grant Stimmel throughout the first half.

TWIN FALLS - Junior forward Sam Simmons scored two goals for the Tigers in a win over the Diggers to earn third place in the state 3A tournament at the Sunway Soccer Complex.

Kayla Bowers had had three assists for Timberlake (12-4-3), which claimed a trophy in its first trip to the state tournament.

"I was pleased with the trip," Timberlake coach Steve Michaels said. "We were able to see a bunch of different teams and we're excited to have been able to have played for third. It was a really good way to send out our seven seniors."

Wood River 1, Burley 0: Spyder Turco scored the only goal in the Wolverines' win over the Bobcats in the consolation championship match at Lake City.

4A GIRLS

Skyview 3, Wood River 1: Caitlyn Johnson had nine saves for the Hawks in a win over the Wolverines in the third-place game at Lake City.

Century 5, Kuna 1: Marias Hicks scored four goals for the Diamondbacks to claim the consolation championship over the Kavemen at Post Falls High.
