LID: Writer flunks subject

| October 24, 2010 10:00 PM

Recently an opinion piece titled, "Highways match need, opportunity" by Len Wallace from Post Falls is a good example of making comments about a subject you know nothing about. Unless Mr. Wallace would like to pay the property assessed fees of $200 to $1,600 per property owner within these three districts, he shouldn't be applauding unless he's a relative or a neighbor of one of the highway commissioners.

LIDs have been an Idaho statute for many years, but have been used for installing gas, water, and sewage connections for those residents who benefit from those services. Highway building and repairs weren't and haven't been used until these three commissioners, Dorsey, Edinger and Sverdsten, decided to circumvent voter rights and create their own source of income to meet matching funds to repair "public" roads.

Mr. Wallace is a good example of those that have voted for the present representation that have taken our country down a declining path. The stimulus bill that he comments about obtaining our fair share hasn't improved our nation's unemployment or slowed down those losing their homes. Mr. Wallace must not be living on a fixed income like many of those represented in the three LID districts.

It has been proven by overwhelming percentages that those residents within these three districts don't approve of this method of road building and repairing for roads that are classified as "public." Maybe Mr. Wallace would like to move into one of these three LIDs and learn the real facts before commenting about something that he knows nothing about. He would become a better informed citizen of Kootenai County and Idaho.
