Lake City falls in semifinals
IDAHO FALLS - Jacob Reimers scored in the 65th minute for the Borah Lions of Boise to put them into the state 5A boys soccer championship match with a 3-2 win over the Lake City Timberwolves on Friday at the Idaho Falls Soccer Complex.
"I thought we played tough," Lake City coach Chad Beadell said. "Borah is a pretty good team that is big and physical. We started off a little slow."
Mason Sanchez of Lake City opened the scoring in the 15th minute on an unassisted goal. Eli Szuch scored on an assist from Reimers to tie the match in the 17th minute.
Jacob Szuch gave Borah a 2-1 lead on a penalty kick in the 48th minute.
"It was a real questionable call," Beadell said. "We kind of played flat after that until Chris (Wheelock) got us going again."
Wheelock took a header from Cody Hocking and kicked it inside the far post to tie the match at 2 in the 60th minute.
"We really battled for the final 15-20 minutes," Beadell said. "We played tough for a team that played 100 minutes the day before. Our whole goal was to get a trophy and that's what we'll have a chance to do."
Lake City (10-5-3) faces Mountain View of Meridian today at 10 a.m. PDT in the 5A third-place game.
“We’ve got less time to recover,” Beadell said. “It was a hard-fought game. Our boys played hard all day. I feel bad for them, but I’m so proud of our guys.”
