WOOD: Best for NIC, community

| October 22, 2010 5:58 AM

Governing North Idaho College requires a board of trustees that understands the entire mission of the college and the diverse needs of their community. North Idaho College is committed to student success, teaching excellence, and lifelong learning. As a comprehensive community college, this 77-year-old institution provides opportunities for a wide spectrum of students. In addition, North Idaho College promotes and houses countless cultural, civic and athletic activities, for the benefit of our entire area.

In her first six-year term, during which she served two years as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Christie Wood demonstrated her firm grasp of key educational issues. Christie knows that 86% of all North Idaho College students are enrolled in an academic program. As a graduate of North Idaho College, she knows firsthand student needs and has been a consistent advocate for excellence in the classroom. Christie supported both increasing workforce training programs and the expansion of North Idaho College's professional technical facilities on the prairie. She has worked tirelessly in collaboration with The University of Idaho, Lewis Clark State College and the City of Coeur d'Alene in the development of the "Education Corridor," so that Kootenai County's higher education needs can be met well into the future. Along with the rest of the Board of Trustees and administration, Christie successfully managed a $4 million reduction in state funding at a time of record student enrollment.

We share Christie Wood's vision for North Idaho College. She has served us well and has earned our vote. It is rare to have a trustee that has lived the mission of the institution they govern. Please join us and re-elect Christie Wood to the North Idaho College Board of Trustees.
