NELSON: She won't face voters
I have watched with great interest the unpeeling of the Jai Nelson onion, and wondered when she would respond face-to-face with the public's concerns and questions, especially those of us living in a rural community. According to Ms. Nelson herself she apparently has no intention of facing the voters and hides behind lame excuses and the Republican Party protection of support.
During the primary campaign Ms. Nelson was invited to three separate forums with different groups of citizens in the east side of the lake. I was at one of those forums, heavily attended, and Jai Nelson chose not to attend. Later I found out she didn't attend two of the three set up for all the candidates running for county commissioner. She offered no valid reasons, only excuses late in the planning. She was the only candidate to miss that many.
Now the citizens are facing another election with Jai Nelson opposing a write-in attempt by Rick Currie for District 2 County Commissioner. So once again the citizens asked Ms. Nelson to come to a forum as the only candidate to answer questions from the voters; the same was offered and accepted by Mr. Currie.
Ms. Nelson again declined, with no reason given, and then when an announcement goes out to publicize this opportunity to hear the candidates, she tries to tell the Coeur d'Alene Press she was not invited at all. I called the lady who had tried to organize both events, and was shown proof that indeed Ms. Nelson was invited but turned the opportunity down. This hardly shows real concern for the rural communities, as Ms. Nelson likes to claim.
I am stunned and disturbed a great deal that this candidate finds it below her dignity to come to a community meeting and face those who may or may not put her in office. Her arrogance and recent exposure of avoiding the truth should convince all voters to withdraw any support they may have thought of giving her in the November election.
