LC, Post Falls triumph

LEWISTON — Jennifer Schuman had 21 kills for the third-seeded Lake City Timberwolves in a 25-19, 25-22, 19-25, 18-25, 15-13 win over the second-seeded Lewiston Bengals at Booth Hall in the first round of the 5A Region 1 tournament Thursday night.

“We came out and played as a team,” Lake City assistant coach Laura Tolzmann said. “We battled strong down to the last point.”

Lake City (9-16) will face Post Falls (27-6) for the regional championship on Saturday at Post Falls, after Lewiston (24-7) faces Coeur d’Alene (9-17) in a loser-out match at noon.

Mackenzie Brown had 12 digs, Camille Rounds 35 assists, Carly Farrell six blocks for Lake City.

Post Falls d. Coeur d’Alene: Tori Bertsch had 22 assists and 11 assists to lead the top-seeded Trojans to a 25-20, 25-14, 19-25, 25-20 victory over the fourth-seeded Vikings in a 5A Region 1 tournament first-round match at The Arena at Post Falls.

“Tori Bertsch had a great game for us tonight,” Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. “We were focused and intense, and we passed and played good defense tonight. I also thought Coeur d’Alene was scrappy on defense tonight.”

Ashley Jibby had 13 kills, Brooke Litalien four aces, Dani Failor four blocks for Post Falls (27-6).

Kylie Curtis had 10 kills and 16 assists for Coeur d’Alene (9-17), Amy Norris had 16 digs, Sydney Williams and Chelsey Rasmussen four blocks each, Demi Johnson two aces.
