Cd'A boys run away at regionals

| October 22, 2010 9:00 PM

LEWISTON — Coeur d’Alene had seven of the top 10 placers to run away with the boys 5A Region 1 championship, while the Vikings girls won their first regional title since 2006 at Hells Gate State Park on Thursday.

Seniors David Norris and Kinsey Gomez won 5A regional titles, with Norris finishing in 16 minutes, 11 seconds and Gomez in 18:43.

“Both Kinsey and David definitely dominated today for us,” Coeur d’Alene coach Cathy Compton said. “David was a little under the weather today, or would have been under the school record. It was a fabulous day for us.”

Coeur d’Alene won despite missing junior Cody Curtis, who was out with a leg injury.

“He’ll be in there next week,” Compton said. “He wasn’t quite ready, so we held him back and tried to heal him up. It’s really cool to have the depth on a team to step up when you’re missing a guy.”

Jonathan Thursfold finished fifth, Keaton Trom ninth and Shane Salmon 10th for Post Falls, which qualified for the state meet Oct. 30 at Kelly Park in Soda Springs as the region runner-up.

Alia LaCroix was second in the girls race in 19:59, followed by Rachel Ward in third at 20:26 for Lake City, which finished second.
