BUS: Standing up with Marie

| October 22, 2010 5:52 AM

I almost cried when I read about Marie Rippetoe's experience aboard the Citilink last Thursday evening. I also felt pride in her determination to stand up for herself and her safety.

What in the world is going on here? Clearly the Coeur d'Alene Tribe has a problem with their scheduling of the drivers' break times. But they cannot sacrifice the safety of their passengers for their deficiencies. Passenger safety should always come first.

Who is responsible for making a stop where passengers would be waiting outside of the bus in the dark with nowhere to sit for 30 minutes? The Coeur d'Alene Tribe needs to step up and remedy this dangerous, not only inconvenient, problem. I also hope the Coeur d'Alene City Council keeps an eye on this for our citizens.

Thanks to the Coeur d'Alene police for handling the situation properly, and lastly thanks to Marie Rippetoe for bringing this potentially dangerous problem to all of our attention.
