SECURITY: Don't blame Democrats

| October 20, 2010 5:15 AM

Here's a news bulletin: It is NOT the Dems fault there was no Social Security increase this year or last year.

This is the quote from the SS webpage at www.ssa.gov: "...the benefits increase automatically IF there is an increase in the Labor Statistics' CPI from the third quarter of the year. This year there is no increase in the CPI so there is no SS increase."

The total Congress, not the Dems alone, passed this Consumer Price Index connection back in 1970, which also allowed the SS funds to be placed in the General Fund, where every Congress to date has raided it for any and every other spending purpose.

But, President Obama is proposing a $250 one time payment to seniors to make up for this lack of a raise.

This would about equal what a $15-20 a month raise would have been. Let's see if the Repubs will work with the president on this.
