Welcome to the ... House of Horror

| October 18, 2010 9:00 PM

HAYDEN — Chuck Hupp is a self-described computer and electronics geek. He’s also a fan of Halloween and all that is scary.

He plans to combine his high-tech talents with his devilish delight to make people scream at the “The Hayden House of Horror.”

Witches, spiders, skulls and even “The Unborn” await those who will venture inside the old Hayden Lake Eagles Lodge.

“It will be scary,” Hupp said.

The haunted house, complete with a cemetery outside, opens Friday and runs through Oct. 30. It is in the Eagles former home, now vacant since they moved into their new facility next door.

Hupp, the project chairman, said it will take about 15 minutes to make it through the house, which will have different themes.

There’s the “Doctor Demented” area, including his “Demented Room,” for his patients.

There’s an area of witches, featuring a room of satanic symbols where people will be practicing witchcraft and playing the Ouija board.

A jail with “a hanging guy” and a large creature called “The Unborn” also await to have their chance to terrorize guests.

A maze will be one of the final rooms, and Hupp is still working a few other surprises.

“There will be four or five people throughout to ensure people are scared,” Hupp said.

He started working on the House of Horror July 19 and still isn’t finished, an indication of how elaborate this will be.

“We built a new building and hadn’t decided what to do with the old one. In the interim, I decided to do a haunted house,” Hupp said.

“The Hayden House of Horror” will be open daily from 5-9 p.m. at 1600 W. Wyoming.

There is “child friendly” haunting from 5-6 p.m. for those not wishing to have nightmares.

“We’re not going to scare people quite as bad,” Hupp said. “We’ll tone it down.”

Access and parking will be from the Ramsey Road entrance across from the Army reserve center in the RV park.

Cost is $3 for children 10 and under, $5 for all others.

The event is a fundraiser for the Eagles.
