LEWISTON (AP) - Officials in North Idaho have resumed the search for a hiker missing since last month after hunters found the man's dog.

Idaho County Sheriff Doug Giddings said Todd Hofflander's black Labrador retriever named Ruby was found Friday night on the eastern slopes of the Seven Devils mountain range.

Giddings said that Hofflander was last seen on the western side, and the dog turning up on the eastern side was unexpected.

Hofflander, of Lucile, was hiking with a friend in the Windy Saddle area on Sept. 27 when the pair split up. They planned to meet at an area cabin that afternoon. When Hofflander did not arrive by the next day, his friend went looking for him and later called Idaho County dispatch.

The 39-year-old Hofflander is described as an experienced woodsman.
