Col. Dwight Calvin Crofford (retired U.S. Army), 90, passed away at Life Care Center in Coeur d'Alene on Oct. 12, 2010.

Dwight was born in Yakima, Wash., on May 15, 1920, to Oliver and Mabel (Jefferies) Crofford.

Dwight married Loretta B. Barcus in June 1941.

He worked for the United States Army Special Forces as a paratrooper for 20 years.

Dwight enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta of Post Falls; son Gerald M. Crofford of Kirkland, Wash.; grandson Steven Dwight Crofford of Marysville, Wash.; and niece Jody (Donald) Johnson of Athol.

Dwight is preceded in death by his son, Ronald C. Crofford; brother Harold Crofford and sister Esther Crofford Berkley.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at True North Church, 10583 N. Government Way, Hayden. Arrangements and cremation have been entrusted to English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d'Alene.
