LINUS: Help our cancer kids

| October 17, 2010 10:00 PM

Every single day, there are 36 children diagnosed with cancer. Multiply that by 365 days in a year and you have 13,140 children so involved with the biggest fight of their lives.

One of the "daily" children to face this diagnosis was 6-year-old Anna Marie Schindler of Post Falls. For five months she battled liver cancer. She died two days after her 7th birthday.

This "Make a Difference Day," Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Project Linus will commence creating Cancer Kids blankets at Lyle's Fabrics. Sixth-graders throughout Kootenai County are invited to work on crayon colored 12-by-12 squares which will be incorporated into the themes of these blankets. The reason for this avenue of creativity is because Anna Marie had a favorite craft... coloring!

Many heartfelt thanks go to the 3Cs, Hayden Lake Rotary Club, Dr. and Mrs. Teich, Dr. and Mrs. Unrud, Lyle's Fabrics, Hancocks and JoAnns. A Heart Like Yours Quilt Shop in Spokane Valley has been instrumental in supporting Project Linus also. To all of them and to all the dedicated volunteers, our association has been Manna from Heaven!

Please join us in our efforts to Make a Difference Day in remembering Anna Marie Schindler and to help make "Linus" hugs for these little heroes struggling to reach tomorrow.
