AAA Idaho: Teens not exposed to potential dangers
BOISE - AAA Idaho said a new study shows teen drivers getting their licenses are not being exposed to the diverse kinds of driving situations that they can expect to face out on the road.The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety study used cameras to capture an in-depth look at teens and their families inside the car.
Dave Carlson, head of AAA of Idaho, said several troubling things emerged.Number one, half of parents are still uncomfortable with at least one aspect of their children's driving - whether it's using signals, or speed, or some other issue.
Despite this, four in ten of these families still allowed these teens to get a license within a month of being eligible.The group is reminding drivers to observe National Teen Driver Safety Week starting Sunday.
Mountain lion sighting prompts school text alerts IDAHO FALLS - A mountain lion sighting here prompted school officials to send out a text alert asking parents to pick up their children after school or have them ride the bus.
The lion was reported Friday morning on the west side of the city.Idaho Falls School District 91 spokeswoman Margaret Wimborne said the messages were sent to Westside, Fox Hollow and Ethel Boyes elementary schools, Skyline High School and Eagle Rock Junior High School.
Police said the lion was first reported by a man who spotted the big cat in his neighbor's front yard. A second call followed from a woman in the neighborhood.Authorities sent out a reverse 911 message to homes within a mile radius of the sightings.
Police and Idaho Fish and Game workers checked the area of the sightings but couldn't find the lion.
Sun Valley Resort owner to join ski hall of fame
KETCHUM - Sun Valley Resort owner Earl Holding has been named to the 2010 class of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard hall of fame in Ishpeming, Mich.Also announced on Thursday as being named to the hall is former Sun Valley ski racer Muffy Davis.
The Idaho Mountain Express reports that those two and four others will be formally inducted on April 2 in Sun Valley.Holding bought Sun Valley Co. in 1977 and over the years installed seven new detachable quad lifts and an automated snowmaking system.
He also started construction of three new lodges and a gondola.
Student disarmed at E. Idaho high school
IDAHO FALLS - Officials in eastern Idaho say police took into custody a Bonneville High School student who brought a loaded handgun onto the campus.Guy Bliesner is the Bonneville County Joint School District 93 Health and Safety Coordinator.
Bliesner says a female student at 12:30 p.m. on Friday reported that a male student was attempting suicide by holding a gun to his head.Bliesner says the assistant principal and school resource officer responded and disarmed the student, who was then placed him in handcuffs.
Officials said the school wasn't locked down because the incident happened quickly and was soon over.
