STRAHORN: Does not solve problem
I was amused by the adoration that was given by a select few toward the Hayden Lake City Council during the City Hall meeting, due to the city of Hayden Lake "fixing the traffic problem" by closing Hayden Lake's northbound section of Strahorn from Hayden Avenue to Miles.
The 700 cars a day traveling north on this arterial still exist. The city of Hayden Lake has actually created more problems. Now the Northbound traffic has to reroute from Hayden Lake to more densely populated areas of the city of Hayden to enable them to get back on Strahorn and continue Northbound.
The city of Hayden Lake used road specifications as a primary motive for this action, claiming their section doesn't have enough crushed rock underneath and is not wide enough to qualify for light arterial traffic. The small section of road between Hayden Avenue and Miles doesn't meet the specifications because Hayden Lake refuses to improve that section of road. Sections on either side of the Hayden Lake are improved, operational and two-way.
The city of Hayden Lake has solved nothing! Looking at a map it is clear that Strahorn is an arterial leading traffic from Honeysuckle to Lancaster. Due to the growth of the areas up north of Honeysuckle, traffic on Strahorn has exceeded original expectations. Improving the section between Hayden Avenue and Miles Avenue is essential. Open the road so that the residents of Hayden, and the county, may have easy access to their homes.
