Local barbecue teams offer meals this weekend

| October 15, 2010 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - The West Slope BBQAssociation will be cooking up a meal for the public this weekend to support local community events and competitions.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Willy's Bar in Coeur d'Alene. Cost is $10 a person.

The public will get its first look at the first local professional barbecue teams who will be cooking up plates to include the option of pulled pork or barbecue chicken, smoked beans, coleslaw and cornbread.

"This event is our way of reaching out to the public, sharing the goals of our organization and introducing our friends and neighbors to what real barbecue is all about," said Jeff Selle, interim president of the WSBA. "Our hope is that when people realize we are providing a great resource to leverage community events, fundraisers and programs, they will see how much fun we can all have as we share the love of barbecue."

The nonprofit WSBA is an open association and is signing up new members, teams and backyard cooks who want to learn more about slow cooking, judging at professional events and more.

Families are welcome.
