Sylvia Jean Myers Geddes, 74

Sylvia Jean Myers Geddes, 74, longtime Hayden Lake resident, passed away Oct. 13, 2010, after a long struggle with polymyositis.

A viewing for family and friends is planned at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, followed by a 4 p.m. funeral service at the Lindon 19th Ward Chapel, 700 East Center St., Lindon, Utah.

Sylvia was born Dec. 8, 1935, in Las Vegas, Nev., to Doris A. Thornton and Thomas H. Myers - the seventh of eight children. Her life dramatically changed at age 4, when a butane gas explosion at her home killed her parents and four siblings. She was raised by her brother, Thomas Gay Myers, and sisters, Renza Myers Conger and Joy Myers Wiscombe.

She married James (Jim) Whitehead Geddes Dec. 16, 1955, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Sylvia and Jim are the parents of seven children: Patti of West Jordan, Utah, Michael (Kari ) of Cedar Hills, Utah, Deanna of Flourtown, Pa., Thomas (Lisa) of Renton, Wash., John (Angela ) of Hayden Lake, Elizabeth Christensen (James) of Lindon, Marci Kent ( Roland ) of Suffolk, Va. Jim passed away from complications of Parkinson's Disease in 1996.

Sylvia is survived by her children, 25 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one sister (Joy), numerous nieces and nephews, loving in-laws and friends.

Sylvia graduated with honors from Las Vegas High School in 1953 where she was a member of the famous Rhythmettes precision dance team. She completed her bachelor's degree in 1967 from Brigham Young University. In 1986, she graduated with a J.D. from University of Hawaii Law School. Sylvia was an accomplished artist, writer and served in many leadership positions in the LDS Church in California, Idaho, Hawaii, Utah and Virginia. Sylvia's children and grandchildren feel eternally blessed by the loving example of this talented, generous and selfless woman.

Sylvia will be laid to rest next to her eternal sweetheart at the Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens. The family will host a viewing from 3-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at the LDS Chapel at 407 E. Honeysuckle Ave., Hayden.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the James W. Geddes Memorial Scholarship fund at BYU-Hawaii or the Perpetual Education Fund of the LDS Church.

The burial will be under the direction of English Funeral Chapel. English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d'Alene, is in care of the arrangements.
