Barb Bradley named Citizen of the Year
COEUR d'ALENE - For more than 35 years of volunteer work, Barbara Bradley was named Citizen of the Year by the Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday.
She kept her acceptance speech short and simple.
"I enjoy what I do," she told those who attended the annual Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce Luncheon.
The 2009 recipient, Marge Chadderdon, said Bradley has been a "person who has made a difference in our community, who has the qualities of honesty and integrity."
Bradley was the 2002 Volunteer of the Year Award recipient.
Chadderdon, an Idaho House representative, told Bradley, "Your dedication and civic involvement has truly contributed to the betterment of our community."
Bradley just recently left the board of directors of the North Idaho Violence Prevention Center, which she served on for six years. The center, previously called the Women's Center, provides advocacy and shelter for women and children in need and victims of violence and sexual assault.
She's on the board of Soroptimist International of Coeur d'Alene, an organization that works for the betterment of women and girls.
She's also on the board of directors for the Lake City Playhouse.
About three years ago, she was on six different boards. She has been busy, but she likes it. Volunteering gives her an opportunity to meet new people, give back to the community and help her favorite organizations accomplish goals.
She and her husband, Ray Bradley, moved to Coeur d'Alene from Spokane about 35 years ago. The couple own R.R. Bradley and Associates, a public accounting firm in Coeur d'Alene, at 2120 Northwest Blvd. The couple have been married 41 years.
