Agencies to hold school zone emphasis patrol
Area law enforcement agencies throughout Kootenai County will hold school zone emphasis patrols all of next week as part of a national safety program.
Speeding and crosswalk violators should expect a citation, not a warning, when pulled over, police said.
Violating a posted speed limit in a school zone will cost at least $151.50.
Nationally, more than 230 million children begin and end the day on a school bus.
School zones are often marked with yellow-green signing and/or flashing yellow lights to help reduce speed during school arrival and dismissal times.
The campaign is funded through Idaho Transportation Department's Office of Highway Operations and Safety. The safety effort will be held in conjunction with National Teen Driver Safety Week Oct. 18-22.
