Post Falls man dies in car crash

POST FALLS — An 87-year-old man died Saturday following a vehicle collision at McGuire Road and West Prairie Avenue near Post Falls, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department said.

Robert Lee Hartley, of Post Falls, was the passenger in a 1989 Oldsmobile driven by his wife, Virginia. As she pulled out from a stop on Prairie Avenue, the Oldsmobile was struck by a 2003 Dodge one-ton truck.

Hartley sustained severe injuries and died in an ambulance en route to Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene.

Virginia Hartley received unspecified injuries and was taken to Kootenai Medical Center, authorities said.

The sheriff’s department did not disclose which direction either driver was headed.

The driver of the truck, Robert Cody, 81, of Bayview, was not injured. Cody was driving on McGuire Road when the collision occurred. McGuire Road does not have a stop sign where it intersects Prairie Avenue.

No other injuries were reported.
